December SLT Meeting

The School Leadership Team (SLT) met on Wednesday, December 1 and continue to work on aligning Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) and look at progress reports. For more information and meeting minutes click here.

Supply Room Volunteers

In order to make it easier for teachers to pickup the classroom supplies they need, FOMSC will be moving out of the current supply closet into a larger supply room. If you'd like to help clean and organize the new space, please email volunteer@friendsofmsc.org

What You Get with Family Giving!

By now, you’ve heard about Family Giving, our biggest fundraiser this year. But, you may wonder: Where does my money go?

The Friends of MSC are creating community through COVID; funding basics in our school over bells and whistles; and the money we raise will make a difference right now.

Already, we’re addressing real-time needs by providing:

  • water service to every classroom that requests it;

  • classroom supplies to all of our teachers;

  • new printers on every floor;

  • tech support for our faculty and staff.

We’re still raising critical funds for MSC fundamentals, such as:

  • our hallmark greenhouse science program;

  • arts instructions in partnership with Harmonize Kids;

  • counseling for middle schoolers who are applying to high school;

  • timely additions to our class and Book Room libraries because we need diverse books.

If you have yet to participate, please take a moment to give what you can today and help us reach our goal of 100% participationIt’s quick and easy. Just click here!

Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee

Thank you to everyone who attended our December 9 meeting! We look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year, at our next meeting on January 13 at 5:30pm. Please save the date!

And, as always, please bring any IDC related concerns. We’re here to help and support as we can. We hope to see you there!

Lost and Found - Collection is Growing!

Lost and Found: If students forget an article of clothing/water bottle in the cafeteria or recess yard, our school aides Lorraine and Maxima will collect all items left behind. If there is a name, they will return it to the student's classroom.

If there is no name, we will save the items and they will be available for pick up at dismissal, once a week on Friday in the auditorium - our collection is growing!

All items not claimed are placed in plastic bags and donated. Donations occur approximately 4 times a year - usually before a school break for holidays,  spring break and at the end of the year. Please claim your items!

Please label ALL items being brought into our school! Thank you

MSC Read-A-Thon

BEGINS: Wednesday, January 5, 2022

Read-a-thons get your reader excited about reading and give friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.

We've chosen Read-a-thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read, helps in the development of stronger reading skills and supports our PA.

Before winter break we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record reading progress and donate.

We hope EVERYONE participates.

Lego Donations

Dear Families,

Shakira is seeking donations of Lego Blocks (nothing with motors please) for model building.

You can drop off any donations with security and please write Shakira’s name on the bag.

Thank You in Advance!

Green Team Club

Shakira is offering a Green Team Club afterschool on Thursdays in January and February. Students in grades 3-8 are invited to join. Each student will work on a project to help improve the school. The club will also work on group activities and occasionally bring home projects. In addition students will also work in the greenhouse and learn more about maintaining the hydroponic systems.

The club runs Thursdays in January and February from 2:40-4:40. Students will come directly to the greenhouse (Shakira will inform the classroom teachers). Pickup will be outside the school at 4:40.

Parents/Guardians should print and fill out the attached form and send it in with students, to be given to Shakira.

Questions may be emailed to Shakira using the button, below!

Scaffolding, P.S. 333 and Manhattan Community Board 7

On Thursday, December 16th, at 6:30 p.m., MCB7 is holding a Zoom committee hearing on the status of the scaffolding/construction issues facing our school.

It would be extremely helpful to have as many concerned parents, teachers, and friends register for the Zoom call, and then sign in and attend it via Zoom this Thursday.

Below is the link to register:

https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_SkZZZzsoS5SKgkWwru_R8Q

Once registered you will be provided with a link in order to attend.  6:30 is a tough time for parents to focus on anything other than dinner time and getting kids ready for bed, however, BY JUST SIGNING IN AT 6:30 P.M., your "presence" will be very useful, as Community Boards need to see concerned citizens who show up.  The more people "attending", the more seriously our issues will be taken by the Board.

So please register now, and sign-in on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.  Thank you!
