Friends of MSC hosted lunch for our teachers and staff on Wednesday, January 19 to show our appreciation! We received wonderful feedback and sincere gratitude from our teachers and staff for this kind gesture. We extend their appreciation to all of you as part our Friends of MSC Parent Community!!

Lost and Found Reminder

Is your child missing a coat? A water bottle? A lunchbox? There are bags and bags of these items and more in the Lost and Found! Items are available for pick up in the auditorium on Fridays at dismissal - please come by and take a look.

Anything NOT claimed will be donated at the end of the month.

Participatory Budgeting M118 Auditorium

Each year, residents in each participating City Council district can decide how to spend capital and/or discretionary expense funding.

MSC, Community Action and Lafayette Academy are working together.

Our Goal:

Upgrade Accessible Auditorium at the Joan of Arc building (M118) for the benefit of 3 Public Schools and the greater community

M118 houses Manhattan School for Children K-8 (P333), Community Action Middle School (M258) and Lafayette Academy Middle School (M256) – approximately 1,000 students in total. Along with the schools, M118 is home to the Superintendent of District 3 and the CEC. Our building is used year-round....

Final Call: Virtual Reading Buddy Program

We are excited to share that, this year, the 8th Grade Legacy Project will be participating in the After School Virtual Reading Buddies Program developed by 2020 MSC alumnus, Benjamin Epstein.

Elementary families who are interested in having their student(s) paired with an After School Virtual Reading Buddy should email copres@friendsofmsc.org ASAP!

Please include:

The name of the elementary school student
The grade of the elementary school student
The name(s) and email address(es) of the elementary school student's parent(s)

All efforts will be made to accommodate everyone but we cannot guarantee that everyone will be paired.

MSC Read-A-Thon - Congratulations!

Congratulations MSC on a hugely successful Read A Thon!

To date we raised $22,879 and read over 76,000 minutes. If any friends and families still want to contribute to the Read A Thon, the window is open until 1/28

We want to thank everyone who participated and congratulate all the readers. We will be sending out a final recap in the coming weeks.

Traveling During School Breaks

Please remember the following CDC advice if you plan on taking a trip.

Before You Travel

RECOMMENDED: If you are NOT fully vaccinated, get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before your trip.

After Travel

RECOMMENDED: All Travelers self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.

Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements after travel.

Baked Goods for Teachers starting Feb 8

On Tuesday, February 8 we are looking for bakers to volunteer to bring in baked goods for our teachers to show our appreciation and let them know how SWEET they are!

Baked goods need to be dropped off at the front desk after all the kids are dropped off and hallways are cleared. Tatiana and Malaka will bring all the treats up to the 5th floor to the teacher lounge for the teachers to enjoy!

We would like to do this on a monthly basis for our teachers. If you are interested please fill out the Google Doc with this link.

Meet on the Sidewalk in Front of the Playground Pathway

Thank you to DANIELLE ALDEN and her husband TIM, for leading our Meetup! And...thank you to our community who showed up to participate!!

Join our MSC Parent Community on Tuesday Mornings after drop-off to begin your day with a run, walk or jog in Central Park. We will meet on the sidewalk in front of the playground pathway and walk over to the Reservoir at 8:25am. Everyone is welcome!
