Nominating Committee Volunteers Needed

Elections for next year’s Friends of MSC Executive Board will be here before we know it. We need 2-5 volunteers to head up this year’s Nominating Committee. Members of this committee must come from the general membership and may not be current executive board members.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for canvassing the parent community for eligible candidates, verifying the eligibility of interested candidates, and running the election.

For more information about this committee, click here to read the FOMSC Bylaws. Please let us know if you are interested by April 1. Email: copres@friendsofmsc.org

Broadway Loves MSC is Coming Back!

Mark your calendars - Monday, May 16 we are going to celebrate “Coming Together as a Community Through the Arts” with the return of Broadway Loves MSC!

Our goal is to recognize and showcase not only the performers but the whole community of craftspeople (writers, directors, designers, technicians, musicians) who come together to bring shows to life - especially those in our MSC community.

Are you a performer?

We invite you to take the stage! Singers, dancers, and musicians, soloists or groups, all welcome.

Are you a designer, director, or technician?

Tell us why community in the arts is important to you in a brief video message.

Want to help plan and run this event? Let us know!

And tell a friend - the more the merrier!

All interested parties and video submissions can be sent to us here at copres@friendsofmsc.org.

Event Committee Volunteers Needed

We welcome your ideas, your energy and your enthusiasm to help organize a few Spring Events! Please share your plans to bring our MSC Community together this Spring! Email: volunteer@friendsofmsc.org

It's take time of year again...

We are looking for 100% participation from all MSC Families. The survey deadline is Friday, March 25th, 2022

Click Here for 2022 NYC School Survey

* Click on Take the 2020-21 NYC School Survey NOW!

* To access the survey, Families must enter 'f' followed by their child's nine digit Student Identification (OSIS) Number. (Please note that f must be lowercase)

Families can find their child's Student Identification (OSIS) Number on their report card or NYC Schools Account.

All Student were also sent home with a paper form with detailed instructions on how to complete the survey and an envelope for families who rather complete the survey via hard copy before break.

Greenhouse News

Did your child bring home a head of lettuce, kale or Swiss chard from the greenhouse lately? It has been harder to eat in the greenhouse this year, so we are trying to allow students to harvest for their families every 2 months or so. Everything we send home has roots attached that you should dispose of, and please make sure to wash the leaves before eating in a salad. Also feel free to print out a photo of your child enjoying the greenhouse treats for our bulletin board.

Next week be on the lookout for a link for a sign up to receive materials to make a beeswax wrap at home to celebrate Earth Day next month. In addition, we will be sending home weekly Earth Month activity suggestions for the month of April.

Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee

As announced last week, The Manhattan School for Children Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee (IDC) is launching a new and exciting film project that will explore how a cross section of MSC families/caregivers and community members experienced the pandemic. The goal of the project is to start a dialogue about our diverse experiences during this unique and challenging time in our history and bring us closer together as a community.

The IDC will be filming interested students, families, teachers and staff by the end of the 2021-2022 school year and will hold a screening of the film on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. The screening will include a speaker and a follow-up conversation for MSC community members to share reflections, learnings and come together in care and support for one another.

To kick off the project we would love your assistance in helping us narrow our focus so we can address what’s most important to you. Please take a moment to answer the following questions. This survey is entirely anonymous unless you choose to identify yourself for potential participation in the film. Thank you for your invaluable engagement.

If you have any questions please contact the IDC Film Project Steering Committee at MSCIDCfilmproject@gmail.com.

Please fill out the survey to help us create the best project possible! Your survey participation is invaluable! Thank you!

Our next scheduled monthly meeting will take place on 4/14 at 9:30 AM via Zoom. We hope to see you there!
