The Parent Association of Manhattan School For Children recognize that parent involvement is a vital component of a successful public school. Parent leadership is essential in order to develop school strengths, identify and solve problems, and to build the partnership between parents and schools that is necessary for education to flourish and for children to thrive. As such, the [Friends of MSC] Parent Association will seek to welcome and encourage the meaningful participation of all its members.

Our objectives are:

* to facilitate the Philosophy and Mission Statement of the School

* to promote MSC as a Kindergarten through Eighth grade school

* to facilitate family involvement at our school

* to facilitate communication between teachers, staff and parents

* to promote volunteerism to parents

* to provide financial support and resources to the school for the benefit and educational growth of the students

* to develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and the staff of the school

* to promote and develop parent leadership and involvement

* to foster and encourage parent participation in the school’s activities

* to provide a mechanism whereby parents can have input into the governance and decision making of the school

* to work collaboratively towards consensus in order to support the Mission Statement of the School.

Friends of MSC Updates:

Thank You to everyone who attended our March General PA meeting. We had a very productive conversation about our goals moving forward through the rest of this year and going into new year.

If you weren’t able to make the meeting but want to learn more about what was discussed, the meeting notes and recording can be found here.

Nominating Committee Volunteers Needed

Elections for next year’s Friends of MSC Executive Board will be here before we know it. We need 2-5 volunteers to head up this year’s Nominating Committee. Members of this committee must come from the general membership and may not be current executive board members.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for canvassing the parent community for eligible candidates, verifying the eligibility of interested candidates, and running the election.

For more information about this committee, click here to read the FOMSC Bylaws: https://friendsofmsc.org/resources/Documents/FOMSCBylaws11092021%20signed.pdf

Please let us know if you are interested by April 1. Email: copres@friendsofmsc.org

Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee

The MSC Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee is launching a new and exciting film project that will explore how a cross section of MSC families/caregivers and community members experienced the pandemic. The goal of the project is to start a dialogue about our diverse experiences during this unique and challenging time in our history and bring us closer together as a community.

The IDC will be filming interested students, families, teachers, and staff by the end of the school year and will host a screening (with a guest speaker and time to come together as a community directly afterward) in October of 2022.

A survey will be coming your way soon to solicit your thoughts and level of interest in participation. We welcome your engagement at any level. If you already know you’d like to be interviewed or are interested in helping us make this project happen, email us at MSCIDCfilmproject@gmail.com

The next scheduled monthly meeting will take place on 4/14 at 9:30 AM via Zoom. We hope to see you there.

Any other inclusiveness, diversity, and equity issues? We’re here for you. Email us at MSC333.Diversity@gmail.com

TogetherHood Afterschool Sports Programs

Togetherhood Afterschool Program Spring Sports at PS 333

As announced last week, Togetherhood instructors will continue offering after school classes at MSC this spring, from April 25 - June 24.

This week we are highlighting their coaches’ spring sports classes:

Togetherhood also has an amazing chess grandmaster teaching two chess classes this spring! He teaches students that it's not just about winning the game, but also overcoming the small challenges that come up along the path to victory.

Baked Goods for Teachers - March 15

On Tuesday, March 15 we are looking for bakers to volunteer to bring in baked goods for our teachers to show our appreciation and let them know how SWEET they are!

Baked goods need to be dropped off at the front desk after all the kids are dropped off and hallways are cleared. Tatiana and Malaka will bring all the treats up to the 5th floor to the teacher lounge for the teachers to enjoy!

You don't have to bake to help volunteer, we need volunteers to help bring in paper products for approximately 100 teachers and staff.

We would like to do this on a monthly basis for our teachers. If you are interested please fill out the Google Doc with this link.
