About the Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee

Dear P.S. 333 Friends,

P.S. 333's Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee (IDC) is a volunteer group of parents who advocate for and support diversity and inclusiveness in our school community. We connect parents, faculty, administrators, and outside organizations to create a culture of respect for all people. All MSC community members are welcome to be a part of this group; we are excited to get to know new people, and to include you in the important work ahead.

This short email includes our mission statement, serves to announce our first meeting, provides contact info, and shares resources that may be of interest. In future emails to our mailing list, we'll post about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and further resources.

First Meeting October 15 at 5.30 pm (remote). All welcome!  We will get to know new members, discuss plans for the 2020-21 school year, and identify attendees' priorities and concerns.

Our Mission
The MSC Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee (IDC) was created to work collaboratively to advocate and support diversity in our school community, by encouraging, facilitating and creating opportunities for students, families, staff, and faculty to grow in their own understanding of diversity, and to promote equality of opportunity for all. We believe children learn best from participation in richly diverse environments. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring that our school fosters an environment where all have a voice that is heard, valued, respected, and equal in shaping an inclusive and welcoming community.

Future IDC meetings

The IDC will email upcoming dates to its list and post in the school wide emails.
All 2020-21 meetings will be remote/on-line until further notice.

High School Admissions Process Information

Dear 8th Grade Families:

As we prepare for High School admissions season and await information regarding changes to the admissions process,  we would like to provide you with some information and resources that you can access immediately.

  1. We would like to set-up a google meeting with you and your child 1:1 to discuss the 12 schools for their high school list.  Please find the sign-up-genius here to schedule your 1:1 advisement meeting: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4EA8A728A4F85-high

  2. Bernard will be conducting an after-school portfolio preparation group for students who will be preparing a portfolio for the arts high schools.  If your child plans to apply to an arts school then please fill out this survey and we will be in touch with you about the details of the group: https://forms.gle/b7RezFQAWyJKMUjD6

  3. Access the High School Admissions Guide (see more information below)

Starting in mid-October, the Office of Student Enrollment will deliver printed copies of the 2021 NYC High School and Specialized High Schools Admissions Guide to middle schools across the city.

What you need to know:

  • Timeline: These deliveries will begin in mid-October and will take place over the course of three to four weeks. This means that the delivery of printed directories to our school might be in late October or early November. In previous years, these deliveries took place in May and June of the previous school year.

  • Distribution: After we receive the delivery of printed guides, we will work out a safe plan for distributing them to our 8th grade remote families. Anyone who prefers to access the information online can do so without getting a printed guide by visiting schools.nyc.gov/High.

Due to COVID-19, the following details are likely to change for the 2020-2021 school year:

  • Details regarding timeline, registration, and administration of the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) and LaGuardia High School auditions.

  • Timeline for the high school application, including the application deadline.

  • Details and timeline for high school fairs and other events.

  • Timeline for high school offers.

Families and staff can find the most up-to-date information about admissions and high schools online:

  • The searchable online high school directory in MySchools is updated with school information for 2021 admissions. Families and school staff can use this searchable directory in English and the nine DOE languages without logging into their MySchools account.

  • The 2021 NYC High School and Specialized High Schools Admissions Guide is available online, both digitally and as a PDF, at schools.nyc.gov/High. Everyone (including families, school staff, and DOE staff) can access these resources in English and the nine DOE languages.

  • Information about admissions for the Specialized High Schools is at schools.nyc.gov/SHS.

  • The new High School Admissions Video Series is now available, and more videos will be added soon: schools.nyc.gov/HSVideos

Please do not hesitate to contact Assitant Principal Ben Schott at Bschott@schools.nyc.gov if you have any questions.
